Enhancing Biobased Volatile Fatty Acids Production from Olive Mill Solid Waste by Optimization of pH and Substrate to Inoculum Ratio

چکیده
The pH and substrate-to-inoculum ratio (S/I) are important parameters in the anaerobic fermentation of agroindustrial residues, therefore optimization these two is needed for a stable, efficient, sustainable reactor operation. In this work, (5–9) S/I (0.5–3 gVS gVS−1) were optimized to produce biobased volatile fatty acids (VFAs) from hydrothermally pretreated olive mill solid waste (HPOMSW). response variables evaluated Doehlert design total VFAs concentration (tVFAs) (mg L−1) amounts (%) isobutyric, butyric, isovaleric, valeric on profile. was variable that most influenced mixed culture HPOMSW, proving be key parameter process. Microbial community analyses conditions 1 (S/I = 3 gVS−1 7) 4 1.13 5) showed Proteobacteria Firmicutes accounted more than 87% microorganisms identified both conditions. addition, second-order model best fitted experimental data production at desirable condition 8).

Potential of olive mill waste and compost as biobased pesticides against weeds, fungi, and nematodes.
The phytotoxic and antimicrobial properties of olive mill wastes have been widely investigated and demonstrated over the past decade. However, their potential utilization as biodegradable pesticides against plant pathogens is still poorly understood. In this study, a series of laboratory bioassays was designed to test the inhibitory effects of sterile water extracts of two-phase olive mill wast...
متن کاملMicronutrient dynamics after thermal pretreatment of olive mill solid waste.
This study investigated metal dynamics, and their bioavailability, before and after thermal pretreatment of olive mill solid waste (OMSW), using a sequential metal extraction scheme. The 11.5% increase of cobalt in the most available fraction after the pretreatment coupled to the increase of methane production rate have been a good indicator that the OMSW anaerobic digestion might be metal limi...

The purpose of this study was to investigate the production of flavor compounds from olive mill waste by microbial fermentation of Rhizopus oryzae and Candida tropicalis. Olive mill waste fermentations were performed in shake and bioreactor cultures. Production of flavor compounds from olive mill waste was followed by Gas Chromatography-Mass spectrometry, Gas chromatography- olfactometry and Sp...
متن کاملPolyhydroxyalkanoate production from fermented volatile fatty acids: effect of pH and feeding regimes.
The combined fermentation of sludge from the secondary sedimentation tank of municipal wastewater treatment plants and food waste enables not only waste reduction, but also the acquisition of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) for the biosynthesis of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). To better understand variables influencing the production of VFAs and PHAs, this study considered anaerobic fermentation of...
متن کاملAssessment of two-phase olive mill solid waste and microalgae co-digestion to improve methane production and process kinetics.
Olive mill solid waste (OMSW) is a pollutant waste coming from olive oil elaboration by the two-phase centrifugation system. OMSW has a high organic matter content and unbalanced carbon to nitrogen (C/N) ratio, 31/1, which avoids obtaining high methane yields in the anaerobic digestion of this waste. In the present study a microalgae, Dunaliella salina, was employed as co-substrate for the OMSW...
